Acoustic Tracking and Navigation
Undersea Warfare (USW) systems use active and passive SONAR for measuring depth, for the detection, classification and localization of targets of interest and for weapon placement. Submarines are inherently stealthy platforms that require the ability to detect the presence of any active emission to maintain their covertness, for collision avoidance and especially for self-defense. The ability to detect and localize the active sonar emissions from other ships and/or those from a homing torpedo is critical for Ownship to react appropriately, which may include commencing evasive action.
Some examples of our technology in this area include:
- Active Intercept Ranging System (AIRS) - provides real time position and velocity of contacts by detecting the active emissions of the target of interest.
- Beacon Tracking System (BTS) - provides real time position utilizing measurements from a single underwater beacon.
- Transportable Undersea Tracking Range (TUTR) - utilizes the single beacon tracking technology to increase the tracking area or improve the position accuracy.
