"Give me a range and bearing to every active emission received by my sonar" is a common charge among submarine commanding officers today. Born out of a successful SBIR Program, we are developing a technologically superior, cost effective direct ranging solution, utilizing low cost, non-collinear sensors to measure the time difference of arrival of active emissions. Using hyperbolic multi-lateration methods, we determine the position of the emitting active sound source in three dimensions – and in 360 degrees.
