MIKEL Training Solutions
MIKEL believes that a well trained sailor is every bit as important as a capable combat system. And that a well trained sailor is a result of lots of practice, and lots of feedback. MIKEL has developed a family of products that automatically measure crew performance as sailors participate in training events at shore based trainers and at sea. These products are the result of decades of experience gained working directly for the Submarine Force’s Deputy Commanders of Readiness and Training, operating Submarine Force Training Facilities and deploying with submarines to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf.
Standardized Metrics Assessment of Readiness and Training (SMART)
Because “ground truth” is known when training is performed in simulators and instrumented ranges, SMART interfaces with them to automatically measure individual and crew performance as thousands of tactical events are performed during a single day of training. SMART will provide rapid, objective feedback to sailors regarding the accuracy and consistency of their tactical assessments and will provide a quantum jump in the frequency, objectiveness and quantity of assessments to Force Commanders. This will result in more rapid development of tactical skill in the Navy’s sailors and earlier identification of underperforming individuals and crews to Force Commanders. SMART is currently being developed for the Submarine Multi-Mission Team Trainer and could be adapted for use on other shore based trainers or at sea, when “ground truth” is available, either on instrumented ranges or via post-event reconstruction.
