MIKEL, Inc. Awarded $14 Million Contract for US Navy Torpedo Advanced Development

Middletown, RI – October 2024 – MIKEL, Inc. (MIKEL), a women-owned, innovative technology development and services company based in Middletown, Rhode Island, has been awarded a five-year, $14 million contract by the Naval Sea Systems Command. The contract supports the Undersea Warfare (USW) Weapons, Vehicles, and Defensive Systems Department of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island (NUWCDIVNPT). MIKEL will provide research, development, and analysis focused on advancing signal processing, classification, and tracking algorithms for use in MK48 Heavyweight and MK54 Lightweight Torpedo Operational Software (OPSW).

Brian McKeon, MIKEL’s Chief Technology Officer, emphasized the importance of this contract during a pivotal time for national defense: “It’s critical that the U.S. continues to enhance its technological capabilities to ensure the effectiveness of its defense systems. This award positions MIKEL to contribute significantly to the Navy’s development of next-generation heavyweight and lightweight torpedoes—vital components of our national defense arsenal. With the growing US Navy need, MIKEL is seeking engineers and scientists with signal processing and underwater acoustic backgrounds to help support this important job.”
