MIKEL, Inc. of Middletown, RI Awarded $43M Dollar Navy Contract.
Middletown, RI – a Woman-Owned, Small Business was awarded a 5-year $43M sole-source US Navy contract to produce and deliver SANS (Submerged Acoustic Navigation System) technology. This critical technology is used by the Navy to compute the precise position of a submerged submarine in real-time. Kelly Mendell, President of MIKEL, commented “This contract represents years of hard work, dedication and ingenuity by a team of talented engineers lead by Mr. Dave Lambert.”
SANS technology enables a submerged submarine to determine its position in real-time with GPS-like accuracy over large geographic areas while emitting no noise and using short periodic acoustic signals from one underwater beacon. SANS is being used as a portable undersea tracking range and also supports traditional tracking on cabled Navy underwater ranges. In addition to aiding submarines, SANS can be integrated into other underwater systems like UUVs (Unmanned Underwater Vehicles). Dave Lambert, MIKEL SANS Director, stated “We are honored that the Navy has trusted us with this important work and are proud of the in-service success of SANS.”
